MoDOT Southwest District News Release

MoDOT, Joplin - The Missouri Department of Transportation will chip-seal state routes in Jasper, Newton and McDonald counties next week.
Chip-sealing is a rock and oil mixture applied to the road surface that makes the road water tight, thus preventing water from freezing in cracks and breaking up the pavement.
Motorists should expect delays and take an alternate route if possible.
When motorists travel a newly chip-sealed road marked by "Fresh Oil" and "Loose Gravel" signs, they should keep their speed down and allow plenty of distance between vehicles to prevent small rocks from coming loose and hitting oncoming traffic.
