Construction Projects -

Route 65 Diamond-Grinding/Resurfacing Project: Springfield/Ozark areas (Greene/Christian Counties)

  • Cleaning up around the project
  • Spreading grass seed and mulch

Traffic Impacts:

  • NIGHT WORK:  One southbound and one northbound lane closed in various locations.  Work hours: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Project Background:

  • Diamond-grind southbound lanes
  • Resurface northbound lanes
  • Resurface/seal shoulders between Lake Springfield bridge and a point north of Christian County Route EE at Ozark
  • Project completion: July 2010.

Roadway Maintenance -

  • Nixa area:  Repair pavement on Routes 14 and M; repair roadway edges on Route M
  • Boaz area:  Repair pavement on Route N
  • Garrison area:  Repair roadway edges on Route 125
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Dallas County

Construction Projects -

Route 65 Widening and Relocation: Dallas County Route EE near Foose to Truman Road in Buffalo (Dallas County)

  • New connection between old road and new Route 65 on north end of project south of Truman Road scheduled to open Monday or Tuesday
  • Installing new road signs along old Route 65
  • Spreading grass seed and mulch in various locations
  • Grading dirt to finish building ditches

Traffic Impacts:

  • Lane closings on Route 65 may be needed at times to allow contractor crews to do clean up and finish work on project.
  • Trucks may enter and leave side roads at existing Route 65

Project Information:

  • Widen Route 65 to four lanes and relocating it to the west of the existing road between Dallas County Route EE and Truman Road in Buffalo.
  • Build new intersections at Neill Road, Kelly Road, Golf Course Road and Barnes Lane.
  • Project completion: July 2010. 

Route 215 Resurfacing: Brighton to Route 65 North of Fair Grove (Polk/Dallas Counties)

  • Laying asphalt to resurface the roadway

Traffic Impacts:

  • One-lane traffic where crews are working

Project Information:

  • Resurface Route 215 between Route 13 at Brighton and a point near Route 65 north of Fair Grove
  • Project completion: Mid-August 2010. 

Roadway Maintenance -

  • Long Lane/Buffalo area:  Seal Route 32 with mixture of rock and oil.  Traffic stopped for up to 20 minutes where crews are working.  Follow pilot cars.
  • Elkland area:  Sweep loose rock on Route AA between Elkland and Route 65
  • Urbana area:  Cut brush on Route BB
  • Watch for lane closings and a slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Douglas Counties

Roadway Maintenance -

  • Squires area:  Repair roadway edges on Route 5
  • Ava area:  Clean out drainage culverts on various state routes
  • Drury area:  Patch potholes on state routes
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Greene County

Construction Projects -

Route 60/65 Interchange Reconstruction:  Springfield (Greene County)

  • Setting girders for the eastbound U.S. 60 ramps to northbound and southbound U.S. 65 near the railroad tracks
  • Paving the eastbound U.S. 60-to-southbound U.S. 65 ramp, the westbound U.S. 60 ramps west of U.S. 65 and the westbound U.S. 60 auxiliary lane west of the railroad tracks
  • Building concrete forms for the eastbound U.S. 60-to-northbound U.S. 65 “flyover” ramp
  • Grading dirt for southbound Route 65-to-westbound Route 60 detour ramp

Traffic Impacts:

  • Nighttime ramp and lane closings possible throughout week for bridge work and equipment moves
  • Dump trucks and other equipment entering and leaving work areas
  • Traffic shifted and driving lanes narrowed on Route 65 and Route 60
  • Work zone speed limit: 60 mph
  • Work zone speed limit when ramps or lanes are closed: 45 mph

Trail Impacts:

  • James River Greenway Trail is closed south of Route 60 to Brunswick Avenue on the east side of Route 65.  The trail will be closed indefinitely to allow crews to build two new flyover ramps and complete other bridge work on Route 60 east of Route 65.  
  • Galloway Creek Greenway trail is closed at Route 60 near the railroad tracks. Trail access at that point will be closed indefinitely.

Project Background:

  • Build directional, "flyover" ramps to eliminate a tight conflict point on the existing northbound                    Route 65 bridge over Route 60
  • Build new bridges over the railroad tracks on Route 60
  • Replace the northbound Route 65 bridge over Route 60 and the westbound Route 60 bridge over Lake Springfield
  • Widen the eastbound Route 60 bridge over Lake Springfield
  • Rehabilitate the southbound Route 65 bridge over Route 60
  • Install new highway lighting.
  • Project completion: October 2012.      

Route 65 Six-Laning Project:  Springfield (Greene County)

  • Paving in median starting at Route 60 and progressing north toward Sunshine Street
  • Building bridges in median of Route 65 over railroad tracks south of Kearney Street, over railroad tracks south of Chestnut Expressway and over Catalpa Street.
  • Paving in median near new railroad bridge being built south of Chestnut Expressway
  • Building median barrier wall in median north of Route 60

Traffic Impacts:

  • Traffic shifted to right both northbound and southbound at railroad bridges south of Kearney Street and south of Chestnut Expressway and at Catalpa Street.
  • Nighttime lane closings where crews are working. Work hours: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday
  • Speed limit in work zones: 50 mph when crews present and when hazards exist in median
Project Background:
  • Widen Route 65 to six lanes, with lanes added in median
  • Rebuild and widen railroad bridges between Sunshine Street and Chestnut Expressway
  • Rehabilitate and widen railroad bridges between Division and Kearney streets
  • Widen bridges at Chestnut Expressway and Catalpa Street
  • Project completion: October 2011.

I-44 Bridge Rehabilitation/Resurfacing:  Springfield (Greene County)

  • Repairing bridge decks at National, Grant and Broadway avenue bridges
  • Repairing pavement on eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 and westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramps

Traffic Impacts:

  • NIGHT WORK: Lane closings and ramp closings possible.  Work hours:  8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday
  • I-44 traffic shifted away from where crews are working at National, Grant and Broadway Avenue bridges.  Two lanes remain open in each direction, but are narrowed to two 10-foot wide lanes.
  • Trucks entering and leaving work areas with traffic
  • Work zone speed limit at bridges: 50 mph

Project Background:

  • Rehabilitate I-44 bridges over National, Grant and Broadway avenues
  • Repair pavement on I-44 between Kansas Expressway (Route 13) and Route 65
  • Resurface I-44 between Kansas Expressway (Route 13) and Route 65
  • Project completion: August 2011.

National Avenue/James River Freeway Interchange Reconstruction:  Springfield (Greene County)

NATIONAL AVENUE BRIDGE IS OPEN IN DIVERGING DIAMOND INTERCHANGE CONFIGURATION

  • Building islands on National Avenue bridge
  • Sealing National Avenue bridge
  • Installing barrier walls for pedestrian walkway down middle of National Avenue bridge
  • Installing signs along Route 60 (James River Freeway)
  • Spreading grass seed and mulch in various locations

Traffic Impacts:

  • New CoxHealth Access Road OPENS underneath National Avenue at 6 a.m. Monday, July 26.  Drivers will not be able to turn left from National Avenue into CoxHealth facilities.  They must turn right onto Bradford Parkway or into the Cox South campus and use the new access road to get to CoxHealth facilities on either side of National Avenue.
  • New eastbound auxiliary lane to open on Route 60 between Campbell Avenue and National Avenue early in the week
  • Short-term traffic stops to allow equipment to enter and leave work areas National Avenue speed limit through work zone:  30 mph

Project Background:

  • Convert interchange into a “Diverging Diamond” where traffic criss-crosses at the ends of the bridge. Drivers traveling on National Avenue can make “free” left turns onto James River Freeway
  • Widen National Avenue bridge to three lanes in each direction
  • Build connecting ramps along Route 60 between Campbell Avenue and National Avenue ramps
  • Build new underpass underneath National Avenue north of James River Freeway
  • Partnership project between MoDOT, the city of Springfield and CoxHealth Systems
  • Project completion: August 2010

Route 125 at James River Bridge Replacement: East of Springfield (Greene County)

  • Driving pilings for bridge columns

Traffic Impacts:

  • Route 125 CLOSED at the James River (beginning Tuesday, June 1)
  • Detour route: Greene County Route D (East Sunshine Street), Route 65 and Greene County Route YY (East Division Street)
  • Drivers have access to roads and driveways north of Route D and south of Route YY

Project Information:

  • Replace bridge
  • Rebuild 600 feet of pavement on either end of the bridge
  • Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Project
  • Project completion: Nov. 1, 2010.

Route D Bridge Rehabilitation at Pearson Creek and BNSF Railroad: East of Springfield (Greene County)

  • Dismantling bridges
  • Lane shifts eastbound onto shoulder and westbound in eastbound lane

Traffic Impacts:

  • Two lanes open during daytime hours.  Lanes narrowed to 9-1/2 feet each
  • Lane closings possible at night -- 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. when needed (nighttime lane closings scheduled for Wednesday, July 21)
  • Speed limit on Route D is reduced to 45 mph in the work zone

Project Information:

  • Rehabilitating Pearson Creek bridge
  • Replacing bridge deck on Burlington Northern-Santa Fe bridge
  • Project completion: Dec. 1, 2010

  • Springfield area:  Seal Norton Road west of Route 13 and Route EE between Routes AB and T west of Springfield with mixture of rock and oil.  Traffic stopped for up to 20 minutes where crews are working.  Follow pilot cars.
  • Springfield area: Repair concrete island on Kansas Expressway (Route 13) on the north side of Sunshine Street (Route 413); repair roadway edges on state routes
  • Rogersville area:  Pavement repairs on westbound Route 60 between Rogersville and Greene County Routes NN/J
  • Walnut Grove area:  Patch potholes on state routes
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Hickory County

Roadway Maintenance -

  • Wheatland area:  Patch potholes; repair approaches; spray herbicides on state routes
  • Humansville area:  Patch potholes on Route PP
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Laclede County

Construction Projects -

Route 5 Widening:  Route 64 to Greenfield Road in Lebanon (Laclede County)

  • Pouring concrete for curb and gutter and entrances along the southbound lanes between Route YY and Brice Street
  • Tearing out old curb and gutter to prepare roadway for widening along the southbound lanes between Brice Street and Route 64

Traffic Impacts:

  • One southbound lane of Route 5 closed in areas where crews are working
  • Entrances could be narrowed or closed in some areas where crews are paving, but drivers will have access to homes, streets and businesses

Project Information:

  • Widen Route 5 to five lanes, two through lanes in each direction with a continuous center turn lane
  • Add a second left-turn lane for southbound Route 5 traffic at intersection of Route 5/Jefferson Avenue/Route 64/Seventh Street
  • Resurface the intersection of Route 5 and Route 64 to eliminate rutted pavement
  • Modify traffic signals on Route 5 at Route 64 and at Brice Street
  • Build new sidewalks and modify storm drains in areas.
  • Project completion: November 2010.

Route 5 “Shared 4-Lane” (Alternating Passing Lanes):   Camden/Laclede county line to Greenfield Road (Laclede County)

  • Paving new lanes of Route 5 in Camden County near the north end of the project
  • Grading dirt and rock for the future new lanes of Route 5 in Camden County

Traffic Impacts:

  • Route 5 traffic shifted to temporary bypass at Camden/Laclede county line
  • Speed limit on temporary bypass: 45 mph

Project Information:

  • Build alternating passing lanes
  • Project completion: December 2010.

Roadway Maintenance -

  • Lebanon/Conway area:  Pavement repairs on I-44 between Mile Markers 115-127; repair ramp shoulders on I-44
  • Dove area:  Patch Routes E, NN and VV
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Ozark County

Roadway Maintenance -

  • Gainesville area: Repair roadway edges on Route 5; repair and replace signs on state routes
  • Theodosia area:  Mow state routes
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Polk County

Construction Projects -

  • Lampe area:  Mow state routes

Taney County

Construction Projects -

Lake Taneycomo Bridge Project: Route 76/Bus. 65, Branson/Hollister (Taney County)

  • Installing bridge deck panels for the new Lake Taneycomo bridge
  • Building retaining wall along round-about bluff east of Lake Taneycomo bridge
  • Installing electrical conduit along Route 76/Business 65 on the east side of the Lake Taneycomo bridge

Traffic/Lake Impacts:

  • One-lane traffic on Route 76/Bus. 65 on east side of lake during nighttime work hours
  • Lake Taneycomo boat traffic stopped or diverted toward shore during bridge girder installation
  • New access road OPEN to the Branson city campground
  • Work zone speed limit 25 mph

Project Information:

  • Build a new Lake Taneycomo bridge, connecting Branson and Hollister
  • Rehabilitate the existing Lake Taneycomo bridge
  • Build an oval “round-about” on the east side of Lake Taneycomo connecting the two    bridges with Route 76/Business 65
  • Project completion: December 2011.

Route 76 Sidewalk Ramp Project -- Roark Valley to Sixth Street (Taney County)

  • Tearing out and rebuilding sidewalk and curb ramps.  Work hours:  11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday morning

Traffic Impacts:

  • One westbound lane of Route 76 closed between Roark Valley Road and Sixth Street
  • Watch for heavy equipment and dump trucks operating in work zone
  • Some work may be done during daytime hours but it will not interfere with traffic

Project Information:

  • Rebuild/build sidewalk and curb ramps along the north side of Route 76 between Roark Valley and Sixth Street
  • Project completion: September 2010.

  • Bradleyville area:  Repair roadway edges on Route 125
  • Branson area:  Spray herbicides to control weeds on state routes
  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.

Webster County

Construction Projects -

Webster County Route B/VV at Route 60 Intersection Widening:  Rogersville (Webster County)

  • Pulling dirt up to new asphalt laid to widen roadways

Traffic Impacts:

  • STREET CLOSING: Redbud Street south of Route 60 CLOSED at Route VV.  Street will remain closed until late July.  
  • Most work will take place AWAY from traffic
  • Nighttime lane closings possible.  Work hours: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Equipment entering and leaving work areas

Project Information:

  • Widen Routes B and VV to build left-turn lanesBuild new right-turn lane on Route B from Route 60 into Logan-Rogersville Upper Elementary SchoolRelocate south school entrance to line up with Cedar StreetBuild left-turn lanes on Route B into Cedar Street and school entranceInstall new traffic signals at Routes B/VV and Route 60 intersection

  • Watch for lane closings and slow-moving work vehicles.  Obey flaggers.
